CPAP Treatment
CPAP therapy is the most effective noninvasive treatment for obstructive sleep apnea. The CPAP Pro systems consist of several CPAP accessories: CPAP Pro machines (flow generators), air tubing and a CPAP headgear (usually a nasal mask). The CPAP Pro machine pushes air through the tubing and nasal mask.
The air passes through your nose and into the throat, where the slight pressure keeps the upper airway open. The low air pressure does not interfere with breathing though some patients need a few nights to get used to the sensation of positive airflow. Many clinicians describe the CPAP PRO therapy as a pneumatic splint, literally meaning an air splint to hold an open throat.
The pneumatically splinted upper airway process is performed when the tongue and soft tissue have fallen to the back of the throat, but the pressure of the air pumped in by the CPAP Pro machine holds the upper airway open.
Obstructive Sleep Apnea
Obstructive Sleep Apnea Syndrome is a sleep disorder which characterized by obstruction of upper airways. Obstructive sleep apnea usually associated with a reduction in blood oxygen saturation. In this situation the airway becomes obstructed at several possible sites.
The upper airway can be obstructed by excess tissue in the airway, large tonsils and large tongue. It also includes the airway muscles relaxing and collapsing during sleep. Another site of obstruction can be the nasal passages.

VPAP III
What is it?
The VPAP III is a bi-level positive airway pressure device which provides comfort and convenience through efficient and quiet therapy for people who suffer from respiratory disorders (mainly obstructive sleep apnea).
This Bi-level ResMed machine features Vsync and TiControl technologies that ensure a comfortable and reliable treatment, even in case of mask leaks.
VPAP III is compatible with the HumidAire 2i, an integrated humidifier that helps ease treatment and relieve symptoms such as nasal stuffiness, mouth dryness, and thick nasal secretions.
Features
2 operation modes – CPAP mode and Spontaneous mode.
Vsync automatically minimizes any loss of pressure delivery due to mask leaks.
TiControl manages respiratory conditions case-by-case.
Optional integrated humidification meets patient's varying needs with changing symptoms and seasons.
Optional ramp time offering gradual build-up at the start of therapy (0–45 minutes).
SmartStart automatically starts and stops the machine.
Mask-fitting feature verifies that the mask has a good air seal.
Automatic internal power converter.
Comprehensive data management for remote monitoring by the clinician.
3 levels of breathe sensitivity settings – low, medium and high.
Treatment screen displays the cycle indicator, measured Ti and I:E ratio.
Advantages
Effective therapy.
Extra comfort.
Easy to operate.
Suitable for a range of sleep apnea conditions .
Suitable for different kinds of patients.
Optimizes patient-machine synchronization.
Reliable breath detection.
Switch-mode power supply allows using everywhere.

Vsync is a unique feature for ResMed's VPAP machines. Vsync automatically minimizes any loss of pressure delivery due to leaks, while still ensuring reliable breath detection. The Vsync detects and compensates for varying mouth and mask leaks, which can decrease the effectiveness of therapy. The Vsync algorithm automatically adjusts the baseline flow-cycle and flow-trigger thresholds to compensate for leaks. In this way, the VPAP III assures patient-ventilator synchronization even in the presence of changing leaks.
TiControl (inspiratory time control) is another unique feature of ResMed's VPAP machines, as it manages respiratory conditions case-by-case by providing minimum and maximum inspiratory time limits. This feature has a significant part in accommodating individual respiratory conditions. For example, Ti control can be adjusted to maximum in order to customize therapy for Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) patients and on the other hand it can be adjusted to minimum for patients with restrictive disorders.
Spontaneous mode - breathing patterns that are sensed so that the device switches between prescribed air pressures accordingly.
